Minister of the Interior Saulius Skvernelis pays a working visit in Israel where possibilities of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the area of internal security are discussed.

Minister met the Israeli Deputy Prime Minister and minister of Internal Affairs Silwan Shalom and minister of Public Security Gilad Erden. During the meetings with them, cooperation in the areas of cyber security, terrorism prevention, public security, etc., was discussed.

“Cyber security for Lithuania is quite a new area, challenge both for policy makers and to experts. As its topicality increases fast, greater and greater attention is focused on this sector. For us it is very important to get acquainted with capabilities and experience of Israeli colleagues”, – underlined S. Skvernelis.

Israel is one of global leaders in the area of cyber security. “For Israel government this sector is a priority one. The Cyber Security Centre has been established at the Prime Minister’s Office. It is responsible for preparing national cyber security strategy and coordination of its implementation. We clearly understand threats and consequences of cyber war”, – Deputy Prime Minister S. Shalom stated.

S. Skvernelis invited the minister to visit Lithuania and expressed hope that the agreement could be signed in Vilnius.

“Police of Israel have great experience in the area of ensuring public security, dangers being both internal and external. The agreement and information exchange would allow to identify the constantly changing threats and to address them more effectively”, – S. Skvernelis stressed.

He met with the representatives of the Israeli National cyber security centre, who presented the national cyber security strategy of the state, the implemented protection of critical infrastructure. During the meeting with the representatives of the Israeli National cyber security centre, possibilities of bilateral cooperation while ensuring security of state protected persons and embassies were discussed. “I have no doubts that Israeli experience which, in principle, is concentrated on prevention, will be useful for our officers working in this area”, – S. Skvernelis said.

Minister also visited the Holocaust Museum where he laid the wreath and paid tribute to the victims. The visit to the Lithuanian embassy was arranged, the discussion with the ambassador Edminas Bagdonas was about relevant bilateral cooperation issues to be solved.
