Today Minister of the Interior Saulius Skvernelis met the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Lithuania Hasan Mammadzada. During the meeting at the Ministry of the Interior (MoI), bilateral contacts and priorities of their further development were discussed.

The Minister S. Skvernelis noted that Azerbaijan is a significant partner to Lithuania, we have historically established good relations and the ongoing successful cooperation.

„I am pleased at close cooperation in the area of MoI competence – active exchange of information in the area of emergencies prevention and response, signed bilateral agreements between the Financial crime investigation and State border guard services, exchange of information via Interpol channels”, – S. Skvernelis said. 

Ambassador H. Mammadzada rejoiced at close contacts of Lithuania with Azerbaijan Ministry of Emergencies. Fire prevention and rescue department under the MoI has been cooperating with this ministry since 2010, the intergovernmental agreement on cooperation and mutual assistance in the area of emergencies prevention and response is signed.

In the opinion of the minister and ambassador, still there are many common areas, in which the countries could exchange the good practice and experience, to establish closer working contacts – it was agreed to define more concrete needs and most actual problems.

During the meeting, Ambassador H. Mammadzada also thanked for high level of public security and Azerbaijan citizens feeling safe in Lithuania. He underlined that the number of young people coming to study here is constantly growing – more than 200 students from Azerbaijan study in Lithuania now.
