During today’s meeting, Minister Saulius Skvernelis and Ambassador of the Czech Republic Bohumil Mazanek discussed current and potential bilateral cooperation in the area of internal affairs.

On behalf of the Lithuanian law enforcement community, the Minister of the Interior thanked for the present partnership and underlined the necessity of it being continued.

“The changing geopolitical situation today dictates new strategic challenges to public security. We must actively exchange information and work together both at the bilateral and the European Union’s level in order to fight more efficiently against international crime, terrorism and other threats to the security of people”, – S. Skvernelis said. 

The Minister also stressed that Lithuania now focuses particular attention on cyber security, fight against the propaganda which is being carried out, to strengthening capabilities of law enforcement and effective protection of external border of the European Union (EU). He emphasized that Lithuania strongly supports the use of the EU Passenger Name Record (PNR) system in the fight against crime and terrorism and it is one of the 14 EU countries implementing national projects on creating this system at the moment.

Ambassador B. Mazanek agreed with the importance of joint actions in both settling criminality, illegal migration and other problems and more active information exchange. According to him, the Czech Republic supports the acceptance of the EU Passenger Name Record system and it will uphold this position during the process of negotiations.  

During the meeting, it was agreed on cooperation at the technical level – B.Mazanek assured that the producers of the Czech Republic intend to respond to all appropriate invitations to tenders related to the Lithuanian law enforcement needs.
