Minister V. Kondratovič met with the Ambassador of Turkey, E. Toplu
Minister of the Interior Vladislav Kondratovič met with the newly appointed Ambassador of Turkey to Lithuania, Esra Toplu. During the meeting, key issues of bilateral cooperation, policy priorities in the field of internal affairs, and shared challenges were discussed.
“Lithuania and Turkey maintain close cooperative relations. We are grateful to Turkey for its significant support in addressing the challenges of irregular migration that we faced several years ago. This assistance made a meaningful contribution to our efforts to manage migration flows. In turn, Lithuania is also ready to provide support should the need arise. Our officers have already participated in international rescue operations, and we are fully prepared to further strengthen this cooperation,” Minister Kondratovič emphasized.
The meeting also addressed the launch of the EU Entry/Exit System, the current regional security situation, and hybrid threats.
One of the most devastating recent natural disasters in Turkey—the 2023 earthquake—was also recalled. The Lithuanian Government responded promptly by allocating aid from the state reserve: 90 modular tents, 50 electric heaters, 1,000 bedding sets, 1,000 pillows, 7,700 blankets, and medical supplies. The total value of the aid amounted to €528,000.
The Lithuanian international assistance team deployed to Turkey consisted of 42 specialists: 34 firefighters-rescuers, 5 medical professionals from the Kaunas Ambulance Service, and 3 canine handlers from the State Border Guard Service.
